Imitation air gun in Parliament grounds

11:41 pm on 7 May 2014

A man has been arrested outside Parliament in Wellington after he produced an imitation air gun.

Police were called by Parliament Security about 9.20pm on Wednesday. They said no comments or threats were made.

Armed officers were on the scene quickly, police said, and apprehended the man as he went to his car parked on Molesworth Street.

Parliament was temporarily locked down by security staff as a precaution during the incident. Parliament was sitting at the time, until 10.01pm.

The man is due to be medically assessed, then a decision will be made on whether charges will be laid.
