AA raises flyover safety concerns

The AA has told a panel it supports the controversial flyover project in Wellington has concerns about the design.

The independent panel is deciding whether to give consent to the flyover, which would run from Buckle Street to the Mount Victoria tunnel.

The AA's Alex Gray said the flyover would improve traffic flow but cycle lanes are too narrow and a proposed crossing would put pedestrians at risk.

Mr Gray said the AA suggested an underground crossing but the Transport Agency said it could be a dangerous area to walk through.

He said another vehicle lane is also needed during peak times.
