More time allowed for dam decision

The Government has extended the time allowed for a board of inquiry to reach its final decision on the proposed Ruataniwha dam in Hawke's Bay.

The board released a draft decision earlier this month granting resource consent, as well as finalising a plan change to set minimum water quality standards and flows for the Tukituki catchment.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council asked for a one-month extension to allow the board more time to consider comments on the draft decision, which could have significant implications for farming communities in the catchment area.

The board's final decision is now due by 28 June, although it could be released earlier.
