Christchurch on track for cleaner air

Canterbury Regional Council commissioner David Bedford says the region's on track to meet new air pollution standards, even though Christchurch recorded its third high-pollution night this week.

The limit from 2016, when the council is supposed to reach reduced standards, will be just three breaches a year.

Mr Bedford said it had to be taken into account that many people were living in flood- and earthquake-damaged homes.

He said there had been no talk of Government intervention if the 2016 targets were not met.
