A former teacher accused of performing an indecent act in the classroom of a well-known Auckland school has won his legal fight to keep his name secret.
Judge Claire Ryan granted the man name suppression at the Auckland District Court on Friday, despite opposition from the media.
Radio New Zealand and other media organisations have been barred from reporting the legal arguments and the reasons for the suppression, as well as the name of the school where the man worked.
The man denies committing the indecent act, which carries a maximum sentence of two years' jail.
His teaching certificate has been suspended and he is no longer working. He will next appear in court on 4 August.
