The Coast to Coast is shifting its finish line from Sumner beach in Christchurch to the seaside suburb of New Brighton.
New Brighton is 13.85km north of Sumner.
The multisport event, which starts at Kumara Beach on the West Coast and ends in Christchurch, has finished at Sumner for the past three decades.
The head of the New Brighton Business and Landowners Association, Paul Zaanen, says the benefits will flow through the whole community.
He says the thousands of people coming to the area will benefit schools, businesses, and residents.
