Christchurch factory burns down

6:06 am on 4 June 2014

A factory has burned to the ground in Christchurch.

The fire service said it was called to the site on Maces Road in Bromley half an hour before midnight on Tuesday.

It said the building was totally engulfed in flames and it took eight fire engines to contain the blaze.

A duty shift manager, Brent Dunne, said the building was totally engulfed in flames.

"The building near-collapsed in the fire, therefore the firefighters had to attack the fire externally. There were no people involved and at this stage the fire is not deemed to be suspicious."

Nobody was hurt and investigators were due on the scene on Wednesday morning to try to determine the cause.
