A man charged with murdering his wife and daughter in west Auckland has been remanded without plea until he is assessed by a psychiatrist.

The bodies of Farhat Rana Malik and her adult daughter Sidra Noor Malik were found with stab wounds at a house in Ranui on 19 May.

Ishrat Malik, 55, made a brief appearance in the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday morning with an Urdu interpreter. He was dishevelled, holding his stomach and groaning.

Justice Lang entered a plea of not guilty and remanded him in custody until 6 August when a psychiatric report will be presented.
