A Coromandel dairy farmer has been convicted for a second time of illegally dumping effluent. Mark Fielden Ofsoske was fined $52,500 in Hamilton District Court.

In the Hamilton District Court, Mark Fielden Ofsoske was found guilty of discharging farm waste into a waterway leading to the Tairua Harbour over three years.

Judge Melanie Harland said Ofsoske's approach was lax to the point of showing a real lack of care and she fined him $52,500.

Waikato Regional Council said Mr Ofsoske has a past conviction for similar offending in the 1990s. It said it is rare for an offender to be prosecuted twice.
