Searchers have found the body of missing Gisborne man Duncan Munro in rugged terrain on the Mahia peninsula.
Mr Munro was last seen on Thursday, and police found his body on Sunday morning on the northern side of the peninsula.
The 43-year-old's van was found near a popular surf break on Saturday with his surfboard and wetsuit locked inside.
A police spokesperson said a post mortem was being conducted.
They said they felt for the family and wish the outcome of the search could have been different.
