Teenage murder-accused due in court

A 13-year-old boy will appear in court on Wednesday charged with murdering a west Auckland dairy owner.

Arun Kumar died in the Henderson dairy he owned after being attacked on Tuesday morning.

The 13-year-old is charged with murder and aggravated robbery. Another boy, aged 12, is charged with aggravated robbery.

The pair spent the night in a Child, Youth and Family facility and were scheduled to appear at Waitakere Youth Court at 11am on Wednesday.

Emergency Services were called to Mr Kumar's dairy about 7.30am on Tuesday. Police said when they arrived Mr Kumar appeared to have stab wounds to the neck. Ambulance staff tried to revive the 57-year-old but he died at the scene.

Mr Kumar's wife was with him at the time of the attack. Police said the family was very shocked and was being looked after by victim support and ethnic affairs liaison officers.
