The value to the Auckland economy of the inaugural NRL Nines tournament has been put at $9.35 million.
Auckland Council economic development agency Ateed said the $9.35 million was more than double what the event had been forecast to bring in.
Auckland Mayor Len Brown said the success had blown away first-year targets.
About 16,000 visited Auckland from throughout the country for the two-day February event, and another 6000 came from from Australia.
Ateed said the visitors spent an average of three nights in the city, and live television coverage of the Nines was watched by more than one million viewers in Australia.
The agency put $3 million into the event, which was on at the same time as a rap festival and an Eminem concert.
