A 12-year-old boy charged with assaulting a Henderson dairy owner shortly before the man died has made a brief appearance in the Waitakere Youth Court.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was to apply for bail, but Judge Tony Fitzgerald said on Tuesday that the matter would be adjourned until next week.
A large group of the boy's family gathered at the court to watch the proceedings. He waved to them from the dock as he was led back into the custody of Child, Youth and Family.
Arun Kumar, 57, died at his shop on 10 June. Police have said it appears he was stabbed.
A 13-year-old boy charged with murder and assault with intent to rob has been remanded to appear at the High Court later in June.
