Police are investigating a sexual attack near Porirua, north of Wellington, in an apparent home invasion in the early hours of Saturday morning.
They say a stranger forced his way into a woman's home in the Titahi Bay area, after knocking on her door at 5am.
The woman managed to get to a secure room and her attacker left the house.
She received medical attention after the incident.
Polcie are seeking an olive skinned man, of either Maori or Pacific Island descent, in his late teens or early twenties, 180cm tall and of slight build.
