Trans-Tasman kayaker Scott Donaldson is reported to be drifting south and struggling against stiff easterlies.
But his wife Sarah Donaldson said on Wednesday her husband was still making headway, and the best guess at when he will make landfall was this coming weekend.
Mrs Donaldson said that is likely to be somewhere south of New Plymouth at Opunake or Whanganui.
Mr Donaldson's support team said a vessel would rejoin him once the weather improved and he could resume paddling.
Mr Donaldson left Australia's Coffs Harbour in April and has battled poor weather conditions and a broken rudder in an attempt to become the first solo kayaker to cross the Tasman.
