Diamond Harbour asked to conserve water

10:12 pm on 10 July 2014

Residents of the Canterbury seaside town Diamond Harbour are being asked to conserve water on Thursday night because a fault has left the local reservoir depleted.

The Christchurch City Council said a significant fault in the network, most likely a burst pipe, has interrupted the normal supply and one of the key reservoirs is now very low.

Spokesperson Terry Howes said contractors are trying to locate and fix the problem and will work through the night if necessary to ensure supplies are restored as quickly as possible.

The council said it would have water delivered to Diamond Harbour by tanker if the problem cannot be fixed overnight.
