A snowfall warning is in place for all the alpine passes in the South Island.
Snow is already falling on the Milford Road with 1 centimetres to 3 centimetres of wet snow expected to fall until midday.
Snow is expected to settle on the Lindis and Porters passes from early Sunday afternoon.
Between 5 centimetres and 10 centimetres of snow is expected in Arthurs Pass.
The Lewis Pass will get snow on Monday.
