Auckland's electric trains run again

Auckland's electric train service was running again on Saturday afternoon but further tests are needed to find the fault that disabled the trains this week.

Auckland Transport took the trains off the track on Wednesday due to a power problem, three months after their launch.

The old diesel trains have been running instead on the Onehunga line, the first to be electrified.

An Auckland Transport spokesperson said the hourly electric train service will resume Saturday afternoon and tests will be done Saturday night before Auckland Transport decides whether it can run the trains again on Sunday.
