Council to reset rates after blunder

6:13 pm on 29 July 2014

The Auckland Council will have to re-run the vote to set its rates, after a technical blunder.

Auckland City.

The council's vote in June to raise nearly $1.5 billion in property rates has been ruled incorrect because decisions were made in the wrong order.

It says the mistake doesn't change the level of rates, or what has to be paid, and the problem will be resolved with a new vote in a fortnight.

Part of the re-run process will require the council to take out a full-page public notice in a newspaper, costing more than $8500.
