Soldier hurt in league game dies

An Amy officer has died from injuries sustained while playing rugby league at Linton Military Camp on Friday.

Lieutenant Samuel Andrew Scott was critically injured while taking part in an intra-unit rugby league 9s competition.

In a statement, the Army said Lieutenant Scott received medical treatment from army staff on the field and was transported to Wellington Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

He died in hospital surrounded by family and Army friends on Wednesday.

The Army said it is supporting the family during this difficult time.
