Police are speaking to several people after a firearms incident at a house near Tokoroa.
They were called about 11.30am on Wednesday after a person saw three people in a car near the town pointing what appeared to be a rifle out of the vehicle.
A short time later, a second caller reported hearing what sounded like a gun shot in the vicinity.
Officers cordoned off an area just north of Tokoroa and surrounded a house.
Four people are being spoken to. Police say it appears no offences were committed, although they are investigating further.
