An industrial are near Tauranga airport is being evacuated tonight after a chemical fire broke out in Jean Batten Drive, the road to the airport.
Police say the alarm was raised just before 8pm and the fire started in an industrial building.
A Fire Service spokesperson said they believe a person was burning something in a drum on the back of a trailer, and when they went to put it out, realised there was no water available.
Four fire engines are at the scene.
