Health workers halt industrial action

12:46 pm on 21 August 2014

Planned industrial action by nearly 12,000 health workers has been called off after an agreement was struck over pay.

The proposed deal followed mediation between the Public Service Association (PSA) and district health boards (DHBs).

Mental and public health nurses, allied workers and clerical staff, planned to launch industrial action next week over a 0.7 percent pay offer.

The PSA said industrial action was withdrawn after an improved offer was reached.

Neither side will reveal details, but the PSA said it would mean more money, better training and increased support for workers.

DHBs said the deal was fair and reasonable.

Health workers will vote on the offer in coming weeks.
