Elderly Christchurch cyclist hit by car

12:45 pm on 26 August 2014

Christchurch police want to find the driver of a car involved in a hit and run this morning which left a cyclist lying on a busy main road.

The police say a 77-year-old man was cycling along Bealey Avenue just after 8am when he was hit by a car pulling out of Geraldine Street.

They said the driver did not stop and they were asking anyone who saw the crash or saw the car leaving the scene to come forward.

The cyclist believed the car was an older model, grey in colour.

The man is being treated in Christchurch Hospital for a neck injury and possible broken ribs.
