A forestry lesson went badly wrong in Marlborough this morning when a large pine tree fell the wrong way, crushing the tutor.
The man was teaching a class of students when the tree fell the wrong way and pinned his lower body.
The accident happened in the Waihopai Valley area, near Blenheim, about 11.15am.
Acting Sergeant Blair Yockney said the 40-year-old man was assessed by paramedics before being taken in a rescue helicopter to Nelson Hospital where he had treatment for leg, chest and back injuries.
Mr Yockney said the tutor and students were on a visit from Rotorua.
Worksafe New Zealand is investigating.
