Christchurch bars bring in age limit

2:10 pm on 27 August 2014

Age restrictions will be imposed in a new cluster of bars in the Christchurch central city in a bid to cut down on high numbers of patrons and long queues to get in.

Stranges Lane, on the corner of Lichfield and High Streets, is made up of the three venues which can take 250 people, and the waiting time to get in can be more than an hour.

Operations manager Tom Newfield said a 20-plus age restriction will be enforced from 9pm on Friday and Saturday nights in a move to address the amount of people coming into the venue.

Mr Newfield said the venue is targeting a mature demographic and there are many other bars for university students to go to during the week.
