Crown pursuing Korotangi Paki case

2:35 pm on 29 August 2014

The Crown will ask the High Court to overturn a decision in November last year that saw the son of the Maori King walk from court without convictions for burglary and drink-driving.

Korotangi Paki, 19, pleaded guilty in May this year and was discharged without conviction at the Auckland District Court.

His lawyer Paul Wicks, QC, appeared at the High Court in Auckland today where Justice Gilbert set the appeal down for a half-day in November.

The Crown has filed an appeal against Judge Philippa Cunningham's ruling that the impact of a conviction would outweigh the gravity of Mr Paki's offending.
