A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man accused of assaulting the manager of a Wellington gay bar after he failed to appear in court.
Adrian Sherman, a 23-year-old fisherman from Levin, is charged with assaulting bar manager Steven Mawhinney and another man.
The incident happened at the Ivy Bar and Cabaret in Cuba Street on 22 August.
A group of drinkers were said to have been shocked to discover they were in a gay bar and to have screamed anti-gay slurs as they left.
Mr Mawhinney was hit after he asked the group to move away from the bar entrance.
