A man has been arrested after pointing a toy gun in a central Hamilton shop.
Armed officers converged on the Town and Country Food bakery on Victoria Street just after 8:20 this morning after reports of a man sitting in the shop pointing a gun at a fridge.
Police cordoned off an area of the city's CBD causing delays to peak traffic.
Senior Sergeant Pete Simpson says the police used CCTV cameras to obtain live feeds into the store.
He said a short time later the man emerged from the store, approached the police cordon, and the toy handgun was recovered.
Mr Simpson said was being interviewed by police but it was too early to say what the his motives might have been.
Workers at a Hamilton bakery where a man waving a toy gun sparked a police callout this morning say he was a regular customer.
Bakery worker La Sao said the man was a regular customer.
Mr Sao said the only other customer in the shop at the time called police, believing the toy gun was real.
