A deer hunter was flown to Whanganui hospital with chest injuries after he was crushed by the quad bike he was riding in a remote part of the Rangitikei district.
Police said a friend of the 60-year-old raised the alarm and a search and rescue team carried the man out of the area on quad bikes.
He was taken to an area where he could be stabilised by paramedics and flown to hospital in a serious condition.
