School requests statutory management

3:36 pm on 9 September 2014

A Christchurch school has asked the Ministry of Education for intervention to help with employment matters.

The board of Linwood College wants a limited statutory manager to take over all employment-related matters at the school.

It has also recruited an external contractor to survey staff and parents on their impressions of the college over the coming fortnight.

Chairperson Dave Turnball said a limited statutory manager would focus on employment matters, while the board continued with its governance responsibilities.

But the Ministry of Education says there is no time limit to its intervention in Linwood College.

Ministry spokesperson Katrina Casey said there was no fixed appointment period for the manager.

She said the manager will be vested with the powers and responsibilities of a board of trustees and will be tasked with supporting the school to return to full self governance as soon as practicably possible.

Ms Casey said the length of the intervention would depend on the complexity of the issues to be addressed.
