Manhunt after 15-year-old attacked

6:42 pm on 12 September 2014

Police are appealing for information about a man with "Z" shapes shaved on his head accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint in Hamilton.

They say the attack happened at 3.30pm yesterday near a water tower at Lake Rotoroa.

Acting Detective Senior Seargeant Andrew Mortimer told Radio New Zealand's Checkpoint programme tonight that Ruakiwi Road, where the girl was attacked, is popular with walkers and commuters and is by the lake.

Mr Mortimer said the girl is quite shaken by the ordeal.

"She was taken at knifepoint behind the water tower where there is a bush area, where the sexual assault has taken place.

"She has given us a significant description of this gentleman that we would like the public to be aware of. We believe that it is quite likely that soemone will recognise this person."

Mr Mortimer said the man is described as a Pakeha in his mid-20s with a small moustache. He has black hair with a tinge of white and a "Z" shape shaved on each side of his head.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area.
