Bogus collectors target Taranaki

1:15 pm on 15 September 2014

Taranaki police are warning the public about a group of bogus collectors who claim to be fund raising for the region's air ambulance service.

Sergeant Bruce Irvine said the group had been active in New Plymouth and at the weekend they were reported to be door-knocking in Hawera and Opunake.

One of the offenders was described as a dark-skinned male, about 30 years old and of medium height and build.

The man was wearing a shiny gold badge and was accompanied by a woman with a gold stud in one cheek.

Mr Irvine said anyone who was approached for donations by a couple fitting the description should call the police as soon as possible.
