Arrest after gun pointed at girl

12:01 pm on 16 September 2014

A man has been arrested after a young girl reported having a firearm pointed at her from a moving car in Motueka.

Police said five patrols responded to the incident on Saturday after the 10-year old gave them the registration of the man's vehicle.

They said officers found the man's car in a carpark shortly after they were given details of the vehicle but the man and other occupants ran off when they saw police.

A Motueka man, 30, has been arrested and charged with possessing an offensive weapon, unlawfully carrying an imitation firearm, and being an unlicensed driver.

He has also been charged with wilful damage in relation to an incident the night before, in which a car had its tyres slashed, and windows smashed.

Police say he has been remanded in custody to appear in court again later this month.
