12:15 pm on 18 September 2014

A 35-year-old Waikato man has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to a home invasion and shooting in three weeks ago.

A police pursuit through the streets of Hamilton has ended in a Pak'N Save carpark, with reports of shots being fired.

Zeb McCallion, 35, of Rangiriri, appeared in the Hamilton District Court today via an audio visual link from Waikeria Prison.

He and a police officer were wounded after a weapon went off during a struggle as officers tried to apprehend him following a chase.

It followed an alleged home invasion in Kihikihi and an attempted carjacking.

He also faces other unrelated charges in Huntly and Auckland earlier in the year, taking the total charges to 22.

Mr McCallion is opting for trial by jury on all of them and has been remanded in custody to appear at a series of case review hearings in October and November.
