10:27 pm on 26 September 2014

Fire has engulfed a building at Auckland's Northcote College on Friday night.

The Fire Service says it was called to the scene by a security guard just before 8pm. Between 60 and 70 firefighters and 17 appliances are there.

No one is reported to have been in the building and the cause of the fire is not yet known, but firefighters said it started in a woodwork room where there were no sprinklers.

Water from the school swimming pool was used to put the blaze out.

Up to 14 appliances were called to the blaze.
