High winds are creating extreme conditions on the Rimutaka Hill road, between Hutt Valley and Wairarapa, the police say.
The wind had already flipped a trailer but no one was injured in the incident, a police spokesperson said.
The road was marginal for high-sided vehicles and motorbikes, and police urged against their travel over the hill.
