3:56 pm on 8 October 2014

Police are investigating the setting of people traps in earthquake damaged homes in the red zone in Christchurch.

A spokesperson said Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority staff discovered that someone had attempted to create a hazard for anyone entering a small number of homes.

Police and the authority would not provide details of the hazards.

A spokesperson for the authority said staff regularly check properties in the uninhabitable residential red zone and would continue to do so.
