A person has died after a rural fire in Canterbury this afternoon.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to a controlled scrub fire near Mt Alexander in Hurunui just before 4pm.
The spokesperson said two colleagues of the person who died were not injured.
The death has been referred to the Coroner and police, Fire Service and Worksafe are investigating.
Police said no further details could be released until the person's family has been informed.
