Forty jobs lost at Upper Hutt factory

4:33 pm on 16 October 2014

Forty jobs have been lost in Upper Hutt as a paper bag factory closed its doors.

The Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union says the factory, which is owned by Wellpack, will close in the next five to six weeks and all the workers have been made redundant.

The Union said some of the employees have been with the company for 40 years and may struggle to find new jobs.

It is blaming the plant's closure on cheap imports and the high New Zealand dollar.
