Farmhand in court over jogger death

11:09 am on 28 October 2014

A Taranaki farmhand has accepted responsibility for the death of a jogger but has disputed the charge he faces.

Karl Anthony Peacock, 29, appeared in the Hawera District Court today, charged with aggravated dangerous driving causing death.

The charge relates to the death of jogger and mother-of-three Deanne Cooper who was running south of Normanby when she was hit by a car on 26 May. Ms Cooper died at the scene.

Mr Peacock's lawyer asked for the case to be deferred so the judge could consider the appropriateness of the charge.

Mr Peacock entered no plea and was bailed to reappear on 19 November.
