No charges over roller death

Police will not lay charges over the death of a two-year-old boy who was run over by a heavy roller.

Marley Shearer was struck by the reversing machine on a driveway in the Auckland suburb of Paremoremo in June.

The roller weighed about 1.5 tonnes and was being operated by a family member to compact loose shingle.

The child died in Starship Hospital soon after being hit.

A police spokesperson said the investigation has finished and has been reviewed by several specialists, including the police legal section and the Serious Crash Unit.

The spokesperson said no charges will be laid against any person, and the Shearer family has been told of the outcome.

The file has been forwarded to the Coroner.
