New Zealand's largest listed company says it will spend hundred of thousands of dollars more on training schemes targeting young Aucklanders.
The company today committed to the Auckland Council's plan to reduce youth unemployment.
It is part of a range of council-driven initiatives under the umbrella of the Auckland Youth Employment Movement.
More than 23,000 of the North Island region's youth are not in employment, education or training.
Over the past few years, the council has helped teenagers find work through apprenticeships and other schemes.
Fletcher Building chief executive Mark Adamson believed the private-public partnership could have enormous benefits.
Mr Adamson said the company had always worked well with councils - particularly the Christchurch City Council following the recent damaging earthquakes.
The company would increase its spending on training and development from $3 million to $5 million in the next two years, he said.
