A man who strangled a hairdresser from Wainuiomata has been jailed for life and will spend at least 10 years behind bars.
Joseph Rota, 24, appeared in the High Court at Wellington for sentencing this morning before Justice Simon France on one charge of murder, to which he had earlier pleaded guilty.
His victim, Huri King-Mosen, lived in the same house as Rota's former partner and her family, and the men quarrelled when Rota visited in October last year.
Rota hit Mr King-Mosen in the head, knocking him to the ground, before strangling him.
A large number of Mr King-Mosen's family travelled to Wellington to attend the sentencing.
