Hutt factory closure could cost 62 jobs

2:37 pm on 14 November 2014

The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union says 62 jobs will be lost when a Lower Hutt manufacturing plant closes.

The union said the closure of the Orora Cartons factory in Petone showed just how much of a crisis the manufacturing sector was in, and came as a knock-on effect from Unilever announcing its closure next year.

It said the plant, which would begin winding down business next year, was a major customer for the Orora group in Wellington.

Workers would receive up to 52 weeks' redundancy pay under their collective agreement.
