NZ chases skilled workers in Australia

3:09 pm on 15 November 2014

New Zealand employers and Government officials are to hold a jobs expo in Western Australia next weekend to fill a nation-wide skills shortage.

A delegation of 30 officials and major employers will target people facing uncertain job prospects in Australia's slowing mining industry.

The expo on 22 and 23 November in Perth is aimed at finding people to fill about 2000 vacancies.

Immigration New Zealand deputy chief executive Nigel Bickle said unemployment was falling and economic growth was picking up.

Mr Bickle said as a result there were vacancies for skilled workers in industries including construction, engineering, healthcare, technology and trades.

Companies hoping to recruit include Fletcher Building, engineering firm BECA and power company Vector.
