Two people are dead after a car crashed into a tree in Christchurch early this morning.
Police said the driver was killed when the car hit the tree on Brougham Street near Antigua Street just after 1am.
The passenger was taken to Christchurch hospital in a critical condition and later died.
It was believed the driver lost control while speeding past another car, police said.
They were also investigating another crash on Brougham Street overnight which left the driver with serious head and chest injuries.
