Any motorist breaking the speed limit by any margin could be pulled over these summer holidays, the police are warning.
The 4km/h limit implemented over previous holiday periods will be in place between December 1 and January 31.
Assistant commissioner of road policing Dave Cliff said while that threshold would operate these holidays, motorists needed to be reminded any speeding at all is against the rules.
"Anyone who's travelling at more than 4km/h over the speed limit will always receive a notice," he said.
"Below that is at the discretion of the officer.
"So we might be stopping people and talking to them and reminding them about their speed. It's probably unlikely they're going to be getting a ticket at 101, for example, but it really is about reminding people (to) keep your speed down, it makes it safer for everybody."
The threshold lowered the road toll last year, and move lives would be saved if speeding could be further reduced, Mr Cliff said.
Meanwhile, a lower alcohol limit of 50 milligrams - down from 80 milligrams - comes into effect on Monday.
