A Cromwell police officer has been charged with assault after an investigation into the use of excessive force at the local police station, police say.
Inspector Olaf Jensen said police had completed an investigation and the constable will appear in court on 11 December.
He remained on duty but was not allowed to do frontline work while the matter was before the courts, Mr Jensen said.
The matter is also being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Authority.
