Govt picks flagship policy schools

2:01 pm on 8 December 2014

The Government has selected the first groups of schools for its $359 million plan to pay some teachers and principals more to raise achievement.

Education Minister Hekia Parata said 11 communities of schools covering nearly 38,000 students had been chosen to start the scheme in term one next year. The selected schools will be named later this week.

Ms Parata said the groups were selected from 71 expressions of interest in the scheme, which is called Investing in Educational Success.

Each of the groups will chose a specific problem to focus on, and one principal and several teachers in each group will be paid more to lead the member schools' efforts.
